Almost all of the beach huts at a Hampshire beach resort have been found to have Asbestos in.
112 of the 119 huts in Milford on Sea have had asbestos sheeting on the bottom of the roof slabs claim reports from the New Forest District Council.
Special contractors have now been drafted in and the huts have been sealed off from the public.
As well as the asbestos some of the huts have also been found to be unsafe and suffering from structural damage.
The council have said that the huts will remain fenced off while further work was carried out and options were considered for the future provision of beach huts.
Councillor Edward Heron said: “We appreciate people’s sentiment for their beach huts and no doubt there will be disappointment in seeing some go, but our main priority at this stage is to ensure public safety.”
