Alarm bells were raised last week after asbestos was found in a room at a hospital in Scotland, not far from the maternity block.
The potentially deadly substance was found by workers who were carrying out refurbishment work on a plant room at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. If disturbed asbestos can lead to serious health complications and can cause cancer related illnesses.
Specialists have since been called in to investigate the area and have now sealed it off.
Reports suggest that the area is no cause for concern for patients and visitors are worried.
A spokeswoman for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde confirmed the discovery in the vicinity of the RAH maternity ward.
She added that hospital bosses ordered air quality checks and no deadly fibres from the material have been detected.
She went on to say: We can confirm that material which contains asbestos was found in a plant room in the hospital.
We fully comply with all the legislative requirements around asbestos surveillance, management and disposal and this material is being removed in a controlled manner by a specialist licenced contractor.
